Through this program, a group of talented high school students design and produce cutting-edge products in-house for financial institutions, and the results are nothing short of outstanding.
As a strategic partner with Landmark Credit Union, NuSource has had the opportunity to see the incredible work coming out of this student program firsthand. The latest example is the Signature Pin Pad Holder, a product developed by students in collaboration with Landmark Credit Union to enhance their in-branch customer experience.
A Real-World Product with Real-World Impact
The project's goal was clear: improve the functionality, usability, and design of the existing pin pad holder. What these students delivered went beyond expectations. The final product is a versatile, ergonomic solution that not only meets but exceeds the typical industry standards for such devices.
Traditional pin pad holders are bulky and offer limited flexibility. The Warhawk Manufacturing team (the name of the student-run business behind the product) designed a revolutionary holder that can rotate and be positioned in virtually any orientation, making it easier for customers to use. The holder is available in multiple sizes, including a desk top unit, and offers three height adjustments, ensuring a perfect fit for any setup.
Additionally, the holder includes wire management for a more organized installation and a digital pen holder for smoother signature capture—all of these features truly enhance the user experience and functionality of the humble pin pad holder.
The partnership between Arrowhead High School's Engineering Program and Landmark Credit Union provided a valuable learning opportunity for students and delivered a product that directly benefits Landmark’s operations. The student team successfully redesigned, validated, and scaled production to meet Landmark Credit Union’s order of 400 units, with each unit passing the rigorous standards required for a large-scale, $20,000 order.
As a result, Landmark is now using these innovative holders in branches across Southeast Wisconsin. This project is a perfect example of how students can use their creativity and engineering skills to create practical, high-quality products that impact the community.
